View Full Version : Coaching - Dunking
Do you encourage?
I do, alot..
not only coz its flashy but it gets them trying to jump higher, which makes them quicker so that improves conditioning, offence, defence and rebounding, when sometimes they wont even know it...
PLus dunks get your team going

Hell yes.
In our Division 4 Mixed comp, every time someone gets away on a fast-break I run along with them screaming "DUNK IT YOU PUSSY" - never seems to happen though.
Is there any more encouragement I can give?

Throw in an F or C word, or even both, It's bound to help.

I'm happy when my girls can make a layup thanks
Last year when I had Youth men we certainly encouraged it. In fact one of our sets was a backdoor thingy that's designed to finish with an alley oop. Most of the time we ran it (which wasn't often) the pass was crap so it didn't come off. The two times it did were highlights of the season!

Because they can't  (the majority of them anyway....in a game situation)

I've only ever seen 2 girls dunk.......and they both had to take major runups to get up there...........not really practical in a game.....it's a travel and the defence wouldn't stand back and let them go for it.
Alison Downie at dandy gets up, i wanna see ehr try to dunk...
i saw a girl in ncaa do a big dunk on a fast break....
she ended up wif a T, for hanging on the rim

There has been 5 female dunks in the NCAA and only 1(last time I checked) in the WNBA. Poor form. Candace Parker is a bit of a dunking machine isn't she? Who was the girl that won that HS Dunk Comp(quite possibly Candace Parker)?

I've got a video of Maria Stepanova with a simple flush in what appears to be an international game.

Yeah Stepanova can dunk, also helps that she's around 6'10. I remember watching a WNBA tape from the states and during the game they showed a nice two hander she threw down in warm ups. That was nice to see.
Snow has some good hops, as does Parker.
