What ages are you all coaching and how many different offences/defences do you run?

This year I have 18W1.
Offence: 4 out 1 in motion with 2 different starts (High and Low)
"UP" series (similar to Hooptactics Horns. Double high screen with 5 different options for each player to get a shot)
GAPS- zone offence
Transition/Press Break
3 set plays
2 baseline sets
2 sideline sets

Defence: Full ct man, half ct man
1-2-2 full ct trap
2-2-1 half ct trap
2-3 zone

I have 16W2. I think talent wise we're probably in the middle of the pack in Div2/3. I'll be happy if we can run:

Offence:
Transition
4-1 motion
4-1 one or two simple set plays
one simple zone offence
2 simple baseline
1 sideline

Defense:
1-2-1-1 diamond press
2-2-1 trap
Either 2-1-2 zone or 1-3-1 zone corner trap

We'll be training the presses mainly so we can deal with them. I'm not sure they'll be used that much.

We'll still be doing loads of work on basic skills, especially offensively. I hope we'll get a lot of scoring off the fast break and secondary break.

I have a ABA Development squad (age 15-20)
we run 1 offence
5 defenses(couple of zone, couple of presses, and a shell man)

CoachPete, this thread was a excellent idea and as every gets their rep team appointments it would be interesting to see what they are considering doing with each age group.

You dug deep for this one Coach X!

Offensively: I like transition (always teh first option!), then 5 out or 4-1 motion and a couple of set plays that have options
Defensively: a 122 or 1211 trap, into man or zone

last year I coached U16 boys and the year before U14 girls

as an exercise, have a look at the % of training time you spend on each offense/set play, then look at the % of pts in a game that comes from this offense/set play.

compare this to the % pts that come good D going into a good fast transition .

For most of my teams in recent memory the % of time we work on a set v the % of our points from it would definately favor the points we score from it side.

Except for special plays, end of game, inbounds and that jazz.
