guys, add your thoughts and questions on this...

I have a tip for people who want to become rep coaches...
Start out as a assistant in rep absketball, then after learning and gaining some respect as a assistant feel free to take a club team,

i tihnk too many people who coach club ball take it too seriosuly and are into the players too mcuh, who are really there to have some fun, learn, participate, hang out with there mates...

of course some club sides are serious though..

but i think its better to start out in a rep program as step 1, before you go teaching and caoching club ball....
what you all think

i think its a lot easier to get a gig coaching a club side, than a rep team (even as an assistant)

I'm thinking of doing a Level 1 Coaching program thingy in May as my first step into coaching....

Probably, but a rep gig isn't that hard. Basketball Associations like most things is about who you know.

Do a level 1, which for anyone that follows basketball is very easy. Part of that course is 30 hours prac experience in coaching.

Contact the Rep person at your local association, explain you would like "help" with a rep side to complete the course requirements. As part of that, shut up and listen to the coach. Follow them around and be helpful. Invest time in this, which usually means 1-2hrs of training twice a week, and a 2-4hrs each Sunday at the game.

Before you know it you know two or three experienced coaches, you've shown you're reliable and you've declared your commitment to the program. After that put your name down for any position for the next rep season. It's a fair amount of work but it's good for the game, and it's fun to hang out with people that really like basketball.
