Mr Book Hornsby State League??
Coachpete, Sutho but don't know what level.

As for coaching them either as a rep side or as pros, elaborate.

But I would think that it would matter on what type of players you have. Are they young late teens, early 20s who have been groomed in a rep program? Or late comers who want to be treated like minor league superstars? What's your demeanor?

well, it can be like they come along and train twice a week and you go play too.. or you can be doing promo's, training most days, have a professional outlook, doing scouting all that kind of stuff that nbl etc would do....

personally id want it to be professional,

Given that most ABA players work, how would they be receptive of having to train even more than they already do? If they can take it, dish it out I say. Better yet, go and ask them what they want. Straight from the horses mouth.

If you have the time or inclination, there'd be absolutely no harm in doing things like scouting and other 'professional practices'. Players would definitely appreciate it.

thats a great point cezar, they work, lots of em do....
so i think if u can find a way to be professional and still make it fine for them with work and personal time too then thats great

I've got an idea, move to Sydney, coach my local ABA side (Parramatta Wildcats) and I'll come play for you. You may be thinking, 'but aren't you vertically challenged?'. Parramatta's starting Point Guard is SHORTER THAN I AM! I kid you not.

He's actually pretty good.

I'm 2 inches taller than him but we've pretty much the same reach.

He's very quick and also very strong. Doesn't have a good J when rushed though, but ok when he's open. It's also the Waratah so it's not like there are 6'4 point guards everywhere. I'd say majority of Waratah teams have point guards who are under 185.

I don't get the big deal with height mismatches particularly at the Point Guard spot. There are so many workarounds when giving up height. It's much harder when you have a mismatch in the post.

Earl Boykins on ESPN last week was truly outstanding.

the advantage fo ahving good size at pg, is that they are longer and bigger, so they have a advantage on defence, also they are taller, so they have better vision over smaller defenders

Last season my ABA team Hills had a 175 cm American and he was trying to contain Newton S. and boy it was fun watching the little guys go at it.

The player from my team got beat and resulted in yelling "Guard him, hold him he can't go left " refering to Newton.

I've seen Newton Sequera play once or twice and he's got some game.

btw Cezar do you know what age he is ? and did you play reps for Parra Youth League ? There was an asian (filo) player who was a member of the 2003 Parra YLM squad a short gentleman ( 165cm ) could that have been you ?

Newton is a great player and one you definately dont want to dribble around. Only problem with being that short is people tend to shoot instead of dribble. We had our guards under instruction that if he closed out we shoot against their zone everytime. Our starting PG and SG hit 5 3's each.

I don't understand why Parra are always playing zone. They have had good to great one on one defenders in the past, Newton, Luke Martin, Goran Veg, Boykins and Ziggy.

I think I know who that Filo guy is but it's not me.

I'm 24 and I think Newton would be around my age.

I've never played reps (though I could have) and the closest I got was when I was selected in Under 16 or 18s for Parra but the Coach wanted to play me at Div. 2 because there were too many short guards for Div.1 and I felt I was better than they were, so I didn't play altogether. :D 8)

Yeah the bastard they had starting at Div. 1 was some water tanker named Luke Martin or something. I remember looking at him and thinking "I'm just as fast as he is, he's got no outside shot....pffttt like he'll ever play NBL"...

I'm a great judge of talent obviously. :D

Huh ? Luke who ?

Anyways I'm a big fan of the Parra program and they seem to attract some very talented basketballers both in their junior ranks and senior men and women ranks.

Cezar any ideas who's on the ABA men's squad this season ?

Don't have much to do with Parra these days (live closer and prefer Hills now), but I'm pretty sure it will be a similar squad to last year.

I am seriously awaiting the ABA season! Go Spiders, Hornets and Wildcats (not in that order).

His name was James, not to bad a player, but didnt decide to return the next year

Very true, although you left out the best one on one defender in Jay

Much the same, except Ziggy is at Norths, Crowy has gone back to bankstown, Huw Wardrope is back and a new big guy Anthony (Goran's cousin) who is pretty good and played college in the states

The Seabl has always produced a Media Guide with limited No.s being printed. All Coaches receive these before the season starts with a few extras for the clubs. I would not take one bit of notice of 1/2 the players listed on some rosters as you will only find those who are genuinely staying at the clubs they were with to be correct. Generally find most of the additions to teams are incorrect as these books are printed early January. The only value of the book is in the statistical side and if you are wanting to check a players registered height for possible match ups.
The Big V was only ever set up for those who couldn't afford the $42'000.00 equalisation money so as they could play at a local level for $12'000.00. You've got to agree the SEABL is the next best League to the NBL or the WNBL. It is rare to find the SEABL CHAMPIONS not winning the ABA title.

Agreed SEABL is a better comp, but for how much longer? There's probably 5-6 teams in Big V who would be competitive in SEABL (up from maybe 4-5 last year), and many clubs seem to be realising that the lower costs mean more $ to spend on players, junior development and coaches.

BTW, used to love Nzigimasabo when he was in the NBL, one of my all-time favourite players :D
