Whate do you guys take into a game when you are head caoch..
i am caoching a game this weekend..
I will have my White Board(with magnets and whiteboard pen)
Also i will have a folder, with a note pad and also some note that i ahve made up for the game...( about 6 pages.. all clearly labelled and everything very easy to find.

as a great coach once told me.. Stupid people remember, smart people write down...
i know alot of people won't take game notes into a game, but i think its essential..
when you ahve a good staff working under you, they can have the notes and you can jsut ask tehm questions.. but when you are on your own.. like i will be, got to ahve notes i tihnk..

what do you all think...

oh jsut so you know.. the notes consist of simple tihngs that teams often struggle wiht.. i.e some principals and a diagram for breaking a press.. a few diagrams of zone defenses highlighitng their strengths and where to attack and also some do's and dont's.... simple rotations on zone defence, some basic and simple rules for our half court offence, some rules on defending baseline inbounds.. prinicpals and absic diagram for runnig a press...

i tihnk thats about all i will have...

before i call a time out... also if i want to sub someone in i mite show them something... but usually i will jsut have a quick look, call a time out... and then address it all.. i dont like to rely on the notes.. but i tinhk they can help make sure i dont miss something obvious during a time out.

i guess you could say the notes are like your assistant coach... :D

Should you choose to, you need to complete these modules first

-dealing with athletes who use weed frequently
-pampering million dollar athletes with double digit IQ's

X learn to relax 1st, someone once said "basketball is a simple game keep it simple stupid".
Ive been there done it , you are doing some great ground work but over doing will confuse you & your players.

i have to say, going into a game, having to read would be very difficult on your own
i would say any diagrams you need to show them are fine, if you cant remember them to draw on the whiteboard, but its hard to react with notes to a good game coach
its all about mismatches for you, and against you
find your teams strengths in each game and coach to them
i know i have some simple plans, and some back up ideas just in case, and try to have the guys ready to play, so i can just make minor adjustments

well, i wish it would go like that every week anyway

heheheh

I want to know was taking notes and using them before a time out in the level 2 coaches course. Boy oh boy it takes 10 seconds to work out what people are running and the most simple effective way to put them out of it.
Someone told me once notes and videos are for those to silly (or suffering a mental disease) to remember.
Extremely Harsh comment but you will find this Fair.

Whether or not to write stuff down depends on your personality. I have a good memory and just confuse myself and overcomplicate it all if I write it down. Plus the level I'm coaching atm isn't that complicated. But I have seen coaches who do this very effectively - my last coach was brilliant - in the Lindsay Gaze mode he was pretty calm, jotted down his thoughts, took a few moments to sit back and assess the situation, then made his decisions, and generally made the right ones.

Jotting down little things - like a player getting beaten in a 1-on-1 matchup, for example - is helpful as in a long game it can help you not get into the same situation again
