I always try to get young players to get the ball up into the "shot pocket" and sight the target under the ball .........but I wouldn't encourage behind the head. Still..........it did work for Hammer and the bottom line is if it works and stands up under pressure then go for it. (If I saw a junior player doing it I'd try and change it though  )
What about Freddy The Panther CoField

Alot of people do it when they're younger to try and muster up enough strength mainly for three point bombs. I know I did and I think Shane did too when he was younger, then it became a useful technique.
However for long range you should really be teaching that the power comes through from the legs.
Any young player I would change - unless they were hitting shot after shot.

Randy Rutherford!
Not good. Unless you are very, very well practiced. Seems to me to give a slower shot release, and takes your shot out of the triple threat. Also IMO less balance, and harder to keep elbows straight. There's exceptions to the rule; but the rule exists for a reason
