no allen mccowan has not move don from the lady bandits program, jim wilson was the only coach to announce he was not returning. The club however decided to advertiser both jobs and told mccowan to reapply.
Shane Mathison has been resigned to the Ballarat Miners for another season.
Bill Runchey has been reappointed for another season.

Apparently Al McCowan was a bit disappointed in having to reapply for the job after doing so much hard work with the group in 2008. I think he did a great job with the playing group and it wont be good for the club if a quality coach doesnt apply now.
Writing was on the wall about Bernie, doing SEABL and WNBL is a huge ask. Will be interesting to see who gets the nod there as it will be a highly sought after position.
Knox have reappointed their women's coach again for 2009.
Frankston have appointed Lukas Carey as their women's coach for 2009, replacing Mark Ridgway.
No word out of Tassie on the two North West Thunder teams or Launceston yet.
You would expect Geelong, Hobart, Kilsyth & Ballarat will resign their coaches.

Pass.....Big V cats is run by a seperate administration to SEABL Supercats so, unfortunately, I'm not in the know there Homer. I would have thought that being runners up in his rookie year would have earned him a call back, however, I'm not sure what the cash situation is like out the back in the annexe.

Ref's try and coach all the time. Can't see why Sam couldn't handle playing and coaching. Ray Borner did it successfully in Ballarat.

Wonder why Ben Armstrong didn't do it ? playing coach role will be very hard, but be interesting to see how things go there post Mark radford.
I see the Tornadoes named local Rick Wyillie as head coach for 2009.
Does anyone know what happened with Mark Ridgway at Frankston ?
I believe he was unseated by Lukas Carey in a power struggle for that position.
If true, it signals an interesting change of alignment for Mr Runchey.
Or it could be nothing of the sort.

According to WIN News tonight, Hobart coach Dan Krebs will not coach the team in 2009.
Citing work and other commitments, Krebs and president Steve Old held a press conference today to make the announcement.
Krebs will still be involved in the club as a board member according to the report, and will have a junior development role within the club.
The Chargers have invited offers for the coaching position.

Surely the Thunder didn't have to go with a player coach? Unless Sam Armstrong isn't suiting up next season?
Surely even getting a coach from the NWBU would of been a better choice?
Dan Krebs is no longer coach of Hobart, pretty dissapointing after such an amazing first season. He wanted to stay on, but club wanted him to focus solely on Chargers and not his junior coaching commitments (part of which he coaches his son and daughters teams). So it came down to the Chargers or his kids, yep like any smart guy, he chose his kids.
Odd move by Chargers, might come back to bite them next season. Interestingly though Krebs is on the interview panel for the new head coach job

totally agree with that, i could not believe they signed him again.
I dont want to give him a pasting but 99% of the stuff i have heard about him isnt good in the way that he treats the opposition while he his coaching.
Maybe he should worry about his own backyard before he worries about the oppostion.

I wonder how the previous coach feels about all the recruiting that is now happening since his replacement?
Or maybe it is just stronger promoting of similar recruiting.
Either way I would suspect the new coach will very much have his rooster on the block for results this season.

This world of basketball opinion is sometimes hard for me to understand.
I read these criticisms of the Knox womens coach.
(I haven’t actually seen a recent Knox womens game)
Yet in my dealings with them as a coach I have found them to be the most professional, committed and enthusiastic I’ve dealt with.
I then compare this to another SEABL coach from another club whom I’ve had, and still have, major reservations about.
Yet some time back when I asked for feedback on them on this site, all I got was positive comments.
Could it be that I’m on the wrong track?

It's nothing against Knox as the club.
Im not going to go start saying slagging him off cause im not into that.
But looking at the middle part of their season just gone it all really fell apart for them, fair enough they finished off pretty strong and knocked off Kilsyth towards the end but still i think they lost 9 straight at one bit (dont qoute me on that tho!)
Plus i dont know what some of the players think of him.
But Knox must think he is doing something right.
Can confirm Diamond Valley will be coached by Lenard next season.

Just wondering on a comment from Patm. What clubs have senior coaches that are approachable and work with other domestic and rep coaches and players ? We are quick to kick the bad ones, who are some of the good ones that work with their club.

I now find, that upon cross examination, my courage has deserted me.
In fact I wish I had never made that additional comment.
I must remember to keep away from the bloody keyboard on Fridays after lunch at the pub.

I am desparate to say something postive to this, but sadly, so far (excluding my last few months which I am not yet ready to judge), I cannot say I have seen quality involvement by a clubs top level coaches, in the grass roots.
Sure they will coach their own kids domestic teams.
But I haven’t seen them getting down and dirty in a domestic club or clubs.
For me, seeing this happen would be a very good sign of a quality basketball association.
Sure they are probably very busy people, and it is the association I more hold responsible for this. Can't they have the foresight to see the benefots to basketball of making these people available as much and to all levels as is humanly possible - keeping them happy would probably be a very good starting point.
I have heard that it happens though – or has happened – and it is usually at what I regard as the quality associations.
The closest I have seen is the Melbourne Tigers YL Mens coach who runs the Ken Watson Academy, and I know that would most likely be a paid gig, but he does an excellent job of it, IMO.

Is Greg going to be a player / coach with the Cats? He would kill them in Div1.
This is the article that was in the Geelong paper on Saturday:
*FORMER NBL championship player Greg Smith will coach Geelong's Division 1 team in the Big V basketball league.
Smith, 33, has been appointed for two years and will assist in junior development.
Smith takes over from Lanard Copeland, who took Geelong to runner-up in Big V Division 1 last season.
Smith said yesterday he wanted to develop pathways in Basketball Geelong to get players into the Geelong Supercats SEABL team.
"We want to keep young players in the system and see them advance past the under-23 competition," Smith said.
"Hopefully, we can feed some players through to the Supercats this season."
Smith said he realised Geelong was a football town but said basketball was an exciting sport for young men to play.
"We'll be working on developing a fun style of play on the court," he said.
Smith grew up in Warrnambool but came to Geelong to play with the Supercats when they were in the NBL from 1993-96, alongside Ray Borgner, Vince Hinchen, Simon Kerle and Adrian Branch.
He crossed the country to play for Perth between 1998 to 2000 and was a member of the Wildcats NBL championship team in 2000.
The point guard played 129 NBL games.
Smith has been playing in the Big V ABA conference with Hume City for the past few years and played in a championship team there in 2004.
He is keen to get as many players as possible along to try-outs at Try Boys basketball stadium on Saturday and Sunday, November 29-30, from 2 to 4pm each day.
Smith said he probably wouldn't be a playing coach.
"Having a hands-on roll in coaching will be my aim, but I'll be looking to keep fit, and you never say never (to playing again)," he said.
Basketball Geelong president Frank Morrissy said Smith would play an integral part in junior development.
"We have 17 junior teams who represent Basketball Geelong in the VJBL and what we like about Greg is his attitude toward developing our juniors. He is looking long-term to build a pathway program," Morrissy said.*

Sad to say but it is well know that McLeod goes where she can get the best $$$. Thats why its a new team every season for her. Just depends on if the coach wants a quick fix or something a little more long term for the entire team when they recruit her I guess going on her past history. That is not saying she isnt a good player, but it comes at a price to the rest of her team I would think.
Some teams out shopping hard early this season in the women's SEABL, Knox, Frankston have gone real hard and you know Launceston and North West Tas will be loading up their rosters. Could be interesting.
I also see on the SEABL website that Kilsyth are getting two new courts, does that mean they will get rid of the second worst changerooms for visiting teams in the league (besides Southern Districts changerooms that is)

I believe his name was in the mix as he had expressed some interest, howver I don't think it was anymore than an interest, and it didn't go any further than that.
Once Adam Holden left, Steve was the likely replacement, and he should do very well this year after a very successful period of coaching the YL team.
Don't know where Lanard will coach now, if it all?
