if this happened mid game, what should the call be:

piece number 22:
"watching your 165cm point guard close out the oppositions centre for three on the buzzer of full time, only to see on the tape, that lil ray, pull down the shooters shorts on his way past, is possibly one of the funniest things ive ever seen on a basketball court."

All jokes aside - technically speaking, it is unsportsmanlike but I would probably call it a normal shooting foul if it either had an effect on the shot or was that obvious that something needed to be called. Otherwise, I would speak with the player and/or coach to explain that it is not the smartest tactic to employ.

If its unsportsmanlike to grab a players singlet during play, then surely the same call would be made here.

In Queensland thats called good defense, and the referees look on it, chop the man who is holding you, chop jsut above his wrist..

LOL.. so which do you prefer a unsportsmanliek and u get 2 shots and ball, or you get to smack the guy over?

in qld, when your running off screens or cutting, you get your singlet grabbed, this happens else where to, but here its like, they jsut let it happen when you are getting pulled etc..

I was talking to some refs about it who said, when someone is opulling your singlet, chop them over the wrist

last i heard, when your running or cutting etc, and someo0ne is grabbing your singlet its a unsportsmanlike, not here though :?

At the very least, grabbing the shirt is a holding foul. If it is really obvious, such as on a fast break, it should be unsportsmanlike. A player should not be required to chop at a defender's wrist to prevent the defender from gaining an unfair advantage - that is not how the game was intended to be played.

We should be interpreting and applying the rules indentically everywhere. It's when individual referees, association and/or state bodies decide to apply a rule differently that leads to confusion.

Back when they had technical unsportsmanlike fouls you'd probaly classify it under that. Im not sure i get you but so a pulled down a players pants i'd probly show him the door.
