Well most young aussie talents coming up seem to be big men. Why are we so shit at developing guards, especially quality point guards. What are we doing wrong

i dont tihnk were doing too bad really,
our passing isnt upto the standard of america though, and we have alot of guards who cant shoot..

The thing in australia is amount of training, most people cant train 2,3 times a day under good coaches like you do in the states and europe,

Doc Hurley touched on it on Fox a few months ago. Our players don't devote the time.

The things that determine effective perimeter play.

Athleticism - we don't have it.

Shooting - we apparently don't devote the time to be a money shooter.

Defense - we aren't known for it and it's arguable a facet of the game that isn't emphasised enough, possibly because of our style of play from juniors right through to the NBL.

I guess this comes back to that thread I started earlier about "Players That Don't Improve", players just aren't motivated enough to take the time out to improve, eg Sheridan, Egan etc. As a pro baller saying 'I don't have enough time to work on my game' thats just saying "im satisfied with where I am and too lazy to take my game to another level". We need to change this culture.

Mate.....you don't know much about Brad Sheridan if you think he doesn't work on his game. (In case you missed the call tonight.....7 years in the league....7 times in the semis......5 grand finals.....soon to have another ring...........what a lazy bugger!)

What's that got to do with anything really? Yeah he's been a winner, I didn't question that. I'm saying from an individual perspective his game has not improved noticably at all during his time in the league. Since when did the amount of wins = improvement as an individual player?

Umm, well players who are on wining teams, usually have very good players, so they automaticly get to be around winners and good players, and good coaches... so really it usually does = improvement as a individual player

Moth......you're absolutely entitled to your opinion. I just think in Sheridan's case you're absolutely wrong. None of the following

players just aren't motivated enough to take the time out to improve

a pro baller saying 'I don't have enough time to work on my game'

"im satisfied with where I am and too lazy to take my game to another level".

even come close to applying to him. I think he's improved out of sight in his time in the league. His playing style may not have changed, but it probably never will. All the things he's good at he's got better at. He certainly has his limitations but he plays within them. He's been an integral part of a lot of succesful teams and that doesn't happen to players that are lazy and not prepared to work on thier game.

Apart from a perimeter shot, what exactly has he improved?

1. Footspeed
2. On ball defence
3. Versatility. Can guard bigs or smalls.
4. Decision making
5. Ball handling

That's IMO. So you guys are saying he's exactly the same player he was seven years ago
I think he's got better each year he's been at the Kings

Of course he has improved over the course of time

I think ANY player in the league would improve just by learning through experiences, you make mistakes and you learn where you can improve and also by being around great players and observing

Everyone improves this way

But where is the improvement you can see from hours and hours of practice and developing skills. His ball handling and passing remain quite average, he seems to have zero midrange game. Sure his spot up 3 is the bread and butter but where is the noticable improvement from working hard at his trade. Ie poor ball handling to good ball handling

WE'll have to agree to disagree here.......you're seeing things a lot differently to me....and BG
