View Full Version : Under 14's
I am thinking about applying to coach a Under 14 rep side,
After watching the level, style and general poorness in coaching and game play at the Queensland State Classics, I was extremely dissapointed. I hope the under 12's isnt as bad, but I fear it is....
Someone needs to tell alot fo the coaches that yu are coaching 11,12,13 year old girls and boys, not Professional Athletes....

Often coaches at this level are parents trying to live their careers through their kids or young coaches that didnt make it as a player trying to stay involved in the game and wanting to win to get to coach at a "better" level.
I had one of the latter coaches in U18s. He was very successful and even went onto be a successful ABL coach (he bought a premiership) and retired a yr or 2 ago. None of his players hardly ever respected him and is remembered as being an absolute tool by alot of people. Hope no one figures out who im talking about but you dont what state im in so i guess im ok.
If you want to coach, want to be respected and get players improving because they love the game then make sure your getting into for the kids and to put back into the sport. NOT for personal glory. Sooner or later it will backfire.

Personally if I was coaching a under 14 team, the primary goal is skill development, mental development and a whole lot of fun to go with it.
If you do these things well, then the results will take care of themselves! :D
I tihnk the reason I would like to do this age group is because I think i can make the biggest positive influence then in 16's or 18's.
