Hoping to find out a little more info on the young Drmic who is playing in the Australian youth team ..........
How old?
Height?
Who he plays for?
AIS?
Is he a chance of going to college?

I remember watching his brother play with Sam Mac, Nielson, Anstey, Melmeth, Pepper etc in that junior world championship team years ago.
And I remember the big fat USA coach clearly indicatioing that Drmic was the most complete player in the squad .........
How's this young kid compare?

Ive seen him over the last 4 years periodically and heres a simple explanation.

About 6'3' to 6'4' hes now 16 and turns 17 this year. Last I knew he plays for Dandenong. I think hes a chance at the tute however he may not be quite athletic enough, depends what they want.

As far as his game he is a flat out scorer. Good range and a nice high, quick release. He uses some somewhat unorthodox moves to score inside the arc and also rebounds well for his size. Hes a capable defender and played major minutes for the Aussie team at the youth olympics putting up good numbers. Future looks bright hes easily good enough to play college ball.

Anthony is now at the AIS after playing juniors at Dandenong like his Brother. He is around 6'5 and turns 17 this year. Plays the 2-3 spot but could easily play the 1 as he great passer of the ball and just as easily play the 4 as he rebounds the ball so well. I never seen Frank play juniors at Dandy but from what I'm told at U14 Nationals he was the best ever seen the way he dominated and Anthony is a better U18's player compared to Frank. Anthony reads the game of basketball so well. There is at least 1 DIV1 college I know that are looking to take Anthony.

Edit: One big thing that alot won't have seen is he is a huge leader. I'm sure Anthony in the Youth Olympics final got those boys going. Whether leading by example or just telling one of those boys to fire up, Anth would have done the job.

Thanks for the info.

I'll check him out ................ when the AIS come to town (Melbourne) later in the year (presuming they're still part of ABA).

And you're right about his older brother ........
There were plenty of people (ex-NBL) who said that he was the most dominant junior they had EVER seen .....

I can tell you that a couple of the big Chinese assassins who were throwing around a lot of elbows and other dirty stuff were targeted by him in the third quarter. He settled a couple nicely off the ball  At one stage he mistimed his hit and slipped and ended up banging his knee hard on the floor but got up and limped back to play D. Tough kid

Interesting to see which position he will settle on playing.

Can obviously play 1, 2 or 3.

I'd like to see him settle on playing the two because this country needs another quality shooting guard.

Does anyone know what sort of minutes he can expect to get in his first season at the AIS?

I would have thought that Dellavedova, Motum, Page and Ellis will command most of the major minutes.

Can we expect to see much of Anthony in his first season?

I can guarantee he's the kind of player who Marty's going to like. He seems to have the (hard nosed) attitude that he favours. If his attitude to the whole thing is where it should be his effort level should demand some minutes

Thats good to hear. Hopefully he does see some minutes.

I know in the past Goorj has invited young players to train with his NBL teams (Bogut for example).

Has Anthony ever trained with the Dragons?

Marty Clarke will.

Nice work Coachpete, beat me to it: I can guarantee he's the kind of player who Marty's going to like.

So true, it will be his work ethic that will determine his playing time. You have a point Jingles, he still has to work into the system, and will play second fiddle to the guys you mention - don't expect a starters gig by any means. I expect the tute may go samll at times and run him behind Broekhoff in the 3 spot for this year, with him ultimately playing more 2 man in 2010.
