Well to say they've been disappointing this year is pretty obvious, while they do have a modest group they should be performing better, 9 straight losses now off the top on my head, and they havent beaten anyone above them on the ladder.
Waters looks like he's struggling, and he has a frustrating style and demeanor.
The group looks like it lacks chemistry and direction, in general they seem undisciplined in their execution. Ryan shoots anything she gets... and has a pretty poor conversion rate.
Will they look elsewhere at seasons end for a new coach and line up? Where to from here? Should Fox have ever been replaced?????
Things must be starting to heat up down at Dandenong by now...

Team is undersized and battles every week to contain bigger stronger players. They are inexperienced in the back court so do strggle a bit with turnovers. They have a big hole to fill with Macca retiring so the Club will need to recruit very well for 2009/10
Ryan does shoot the ball a lot but that is her role. Interesting that her shooting per centages are up on last year and 35% from the three is not that bad.
I have watched them and their chemistry is Ok with Macca, Ryan and the import leading the way. They are just unable to win close games with two close losses to Bendigo that could have changed their season.
I would think they'll continue with Waters next year.

Round them all up in detention centres and off them all one by one.

He does seem to struggle from angry short mans syndrome... seems very spontaneous and erratic, is he aware that white boards exist?
Why on earth Fox was replaced i'll never understand, i mean he only took us to 3 consecutive Grand Finals, followed by another Finals series.
Agree 100% re Waters demeanour, its incredibly negative, he looks like someone who is defeated before the game even starts! There's a lack of ideas, creativity, positivity, you name it.
Ryan has been a good servant, but over the past 2 years she's been an embarrassment - i've seen her LAUGH when she misses shots near the end of close games which ultimately have cost us a "W" ... and some of those shots were ones that simply should never have been taken (pass to a team mate in better position, please!). She just doesn't seem to care that much any more.
As a member i'm extremely disappointed, under Gary the place was rocking, under Dale ... well its simply morbid. For the games that i've attended there haven't been the usual pre-game coaches speeches in the upstairs bar which were a great way of making members feel part of the team (Gary was always very accessible and happy to talk to us), its been woeful 'value for money' for our membership this year and i'm sure i won't be the only member not renewing next season unless some changes are made.
I hope at the least a coaching change is made. Hopefully there are more pre & post game events to keep us members wanting to return too, the loss of Lisa Lawlor who did an outstanding job for many years in that regards has really hurt the club this season, but i'll give them an 'out' on that one as it would take anyone time to settle into that new role, nonetheless that needs to be remedied by the start of next season.
And please, no more 'home' games that aren't played at home! Are you the Dandenong Rangers or the Launceston Rangers or the Hobart Rangers?? What is the club (if its their decision) trying to accomplish by this other than disengaging its loyal fan base?!! Win or lose i want to be able to attend our home games, not have to follow them via the Internet or the telly!

That team has talent and should be in the four, especially if as said earlier team has good chemistry and Ryan is shooting well. But Waters struggles as coach at this level, has no feel for game, subs erratically, has poor demeanor and temperament, and little respect around league because of it. Have import, Opal, Gems and experienced players but Waters helps find ways for team to lose rather than win. While he and a couple others are at that club it will continue to struggle.

The common denominator to all this is not the new coach - he is the effect - rather than the cause.
I trace these and other changes in the environment back to the most recent change of president.

You must have something against the president.
You must have something against the president.
I have nothing against the president - don't know him - have never spoken to him.
But I have observed the changes under his leadership - I believe they have been very marked changes - and not changes that I personally like.
However, that does not necessarily make them wrong.
But when I see what I believe are the effects of such changes - I like to see leadership be accountable for them - be they negative such as this post - or positive as I have made on other topics.
Leaders in my experience, have a tendency to personally take credit for the positives, and share the responsibility for the negatives - through a variety of very effective techniques.

Hmm.. the pieces are starting to fit together.. its not hard to work out why Caitlin can junk it up out there and get away with it..
If they can't beat the Lynx tonight he should quit, i mean seriously....

Lol
Good point re the Prez patm, i must admit this had inexplicably slipped my mind, but exactly right, the changes under his tutelage have not been for the best, although i do feel Waters has to be accountable too.

President has done a great job. While on field success in WNBL is not there yet the Club is doing well. CCP , if you are close to all things Rangers you should know this
I'm sure they are already plotting an improved WNBL team for 2010.
I love the way anonymous people get on here and bag others?

George the Gregan and Dicky V=the president people are referring to
I love the way anonymous people get on here and bag others?
Hey George - aren't you anonymous too?
And I wasn't aware I was bagging anyone - if that was directed at me.
But if you cannot hold a leader accountable for what happens under their watch, who can you hold to account?
There have been many changes at Dandenong over the last couple of years and you would have to say that things are definitely more "professional".
But I also believe they have lost their heart and soul along the way - some will say you can't have both - and it would be a shame if that was the case - and it will be much harder to get it back than it ever was to lose it.
To me it seems more like a company now than a club.

What are you going to do with Waters now George the Gragon-I mean Charles Ryan?? My goodness, losing to the AIS with the talent on Dandenong's team! Seems to be the common opinion?

Yes although its obvious who you are Charles, i am anonymous on these boards like most others, and i'm passionate and put my money where my mouth is by buying a membership each year, even on the occasions where other commitments mean i am away from Victoria and hence unable to get to games. I fully supported the direction the Rangers were heading in under Gary Fox, and am only critical now because i care for the club and want to see it prosper. A loss to the AIS is another example of the debacle that has befallen this club over the past couple of years - sure we made the Finals last season but with a team that was never going to be our future. That fell apart and look where we are now. Something just ain't right at the Nongerdome.

Dandenong look all over the place, good one minute terrible the next. They are really lacking a powerful tall that can push around in the key as well as a good point guard, although i've heard the fixed that problem. Ryan can shoot a good outside shot, but let's face it, she plays one end of the court. She basically throws up everything that comes her way, can't cut the pace and opposition players just run of her. She needs to loose 20 pounds, create for others, play defence or give it away. Don't mean to sound attacking but that's a general observation. Probst and allen, both with speed and height seem should be given a bit more reign rather than watching some of the junk some players seem to get away with. Waters seems like an ok guy but it makes me wonder how much he is influenced. Dandenong need to get with the program because it's getting ugly:

The people in charge firstly limited the ability to recruit for Fox, then they just removed him. Must have been as Waters record at WNBL level was so much better !

Another spanking... woeful shooting % too, they just aren't getting good looks from their offense. Too much reliance on the perimeter and no inside game although it looks like that didnt work last night either.

why run a heap of onball screen sets when the only one that can penetrate is edmonson and he doesnt play her!
Wonder if Dean Kinsman has started working out who he is going to keep next season.

I think a few people at Dandenong have much to answer for as the club has been getting worse by the year after they removed Fox from the coaching job. Time to clean house.
I am shocked and amazed that you can't build a team around Caitlan Ryan!!
Bad Management, Bad Coach, Bad Team, nice Venue though.

Time to clean house.
Oh yeah. And whose gonna do that?
I noticed another interesting thing the other day - although maybe everyone else but me already knew it - but the MD and founder of Jayco has the surname of Ryan - could there possibly be a connection there?

i beleieve that some others may have been asked before a decision on Dean was made. Some interesting choices were called to!!
Good luck dean, also good luck getting any recruits for next season.
Another fun note, gary fox was sitting behind the Dandenong Bench on Saturday night to see the once great club he coached fall to the least professional side in the league (no offence to bendigo - referring to player payments as professional sports people).
Got to love the rangers.

Dandenong have now done it all - the Head Coach cant get the job done so he steps down - his best mate comes in and takes over - but he remains involved as an assistant? You have got to be kidding!
This is the coach entrusted with taking our Junior National Team?
Dandenongs fall from grace is tragic - but the question is how long will it be before someone stands up - takes responsibility - and tries to fix the damage before it is too late - i dont think Kinsman taking over from Waters is the Answer!

Hmmm... i honestly thought this was going to eventuate but him stay on as an Assistant??? VERY strange way for them to handle it, the players must be as confused as hell, surely a clean break and fresh start WITHOUT HIM would be more appropriate even with Dean taking over?

Feel a bit sorry for this one. She only got 2 minutes in that first game against Bendigo and that was it.

They got rid of the wrong caitlin or is that a non negotiated factor in taking the dandenong job. Daddy wants caitlin to have a new team for her next year. Well they are going to have to get a bit more brutal and honest than that to mix it with the rest. From the games i've watched, theres a few to many people getting a whole lot of game time while doing a whole lot of nothing. Lets see just how much reign kinsman will have, more i hope than waters?

It's the only one thing that Adelaide and Dandenong have in common. One untouchable player that you must play or suffer the wrath of the Dad ! Or so it appears.
Are there any clubs left for Cunningham to go to ? Or has everyone worked out she is a bad seed amongst the team ! I say this because the list of coaches that have tried to work with her is long and talented and still leaves or is sacked. About time she had a good hard look in the mirror I feel.
The Professor
19-11-2009, 09:49 AM
Quite so, but it's still a curious reaction by the club. You would have thought that the players who have actually had court time and are responsible for the team's results would be held to account rather than a fringe player who has virtually not played at all. If I was the new coach, I'd dump a few of the current players and give the fringe players a go - surely they couldn't be worse than what is going on at the moment. That old saying about deckchairs and the Titanic comes to mind when I think about the Rangers and its new coaching arrangement.
