So Tom Maher has been named the head coach of the Bulleen Boomers. Very curious to see how he got the job. He's obviously one of the greatest coaches this country has ever had but Cheryl Chambers did a great job getting the Boomers to the GF so either she stepped down or was pushed aside which would have been very controversial...

I too was left wondering what happened to coach Chambers. Given her tenure at the club and in particular the success of the past season, I was surprised the press release issued by Bulleen made no mention of Cheryl.

She ws shafted by the Maher/Tims faction within the club. When Tom didnt get the national gig it was bound to happen. A coac of his standing is not going to coach girls U18's now is he.........
It also means he is out of the AIS job running so will that be Dale ??

Maybe Browny will come back, he looks to be out of a gig at Oregon

I'm sorry to hear that. I always thought coach Chambers had done a good job with Bulleen. Bit harsh that the coach of the year who led the team to a grand final got shafted.

Any chance she may replace Waters at Dandenong?

Also waiting for a major signing by Bulleen. Could it be one of the Chinese players Tom has been coaching for so long ?

Dale is pretty keen to get the AIS job and with his record in the WNBL not looking great it might be his best move. Cheryl would be good at Dandy but I dont know how she would go with the ... management there.

Anyone think Cheryl could do a better job with the talent at the Lightning that Vicki Valk did this year?

she could but dont forget that the WNBL coaches are paid a pitence just like the players so moving interstate relys so much on gaining full time employment, or a decent backbalance to se you thr the lean times.

I really feel for Cheryl, i think shes done a great job at Bulleen considering their circumstances. All of the players always seem to really respect and like playing for her. I hope she gets the assistant job with the Opals so her coaching is not wasted.

The last time Maher was in charge of a WNBL club he turned a finals calibre team into a laughing stock within a week of the season starting, and alienated the supporters by 'shafting' one of their favourites. I feel sorry for the Bulleen players and supporters.
I don't know why Cheryl left, but if she was forced out I feel sorry fer her as well, she built a very good side and deserved to improve on Bulleen's most successful ever.

Leftfield, I think that's a bit rough. When he became coach of the Caps, he snagged Jenny Whittle out of retirement and got Bevilaqua to leave Perth and play for Canberra. It was actually being said around the league, that he did the best recruiting for that season. It was only because LJ couldn't play the whole season that the team struggled and if it wasn't for him, I doubt Graf would have been able to recruit Whittle and Tully, so they would have done even worse.

It was more than LJ not being able to play, he caused some division within the team, definately with the supporters. His treatment of Abrams was deplorable, and his decision to play Marino for 40 minutes a game was ludicrious, she was a 19 year old who may have had some Olympics experience, but had no WNBL experience. She was out of her depth, and he refused to notice and early in the season he placed the blame on Abrams (who statiscally was having one of her best seasons). Once she left it was obvious to all where the problem was seated, and thankfully it left after that season, and Graffie returned and returned us to the top.

The question now is, will Cheryl turn up in Big V or SEABL somewhere. Far to good a coach to not be around.

I hope that's true, I miss Dandenong in the finals and they will need all the help they can get. I think Penaluna has a great future.

I think that has more to do with SEABL than WNBL

Why did she walk out of Nuna?
