I think now might be a good time to start again with the Plus section. If you deleted all the current threads and open the off topic stuff to everyone, then in a month or two, make it members only, I think you might get a new breed of people to join up, as they wouldnt have seen how enjoyable off topic can get.
I don't think there is any thread or discussion that is/was that important that it can't be deleted forever, so we will just start the standard helpful threads (tech support, recipes/cooking, how to be a drama queen AND environmental activist) when we see fit.

I know there is one thread that has sentimental value for me, and if it wasn't restored I'd ask for an offline copy.
Other than that, I'm in favour of a new dawn.

There's nothing stopping me keeping the old Plus area available, AND having a new one for prospective new members. :)

I don't know if the regulars would contribute to the new section (if I understood the option correctly).

Old plus area read only for old members.
New plus area read/write for all.

guess it wouldn't hurt to start new versions of old threads.

Just out of curiosity... Would any of the boards+ members who've paid up their $10 through September feel a little miffed by this?

I can understand the sentimentalismicity of some threads (although I can't figure out which one) but I reckon it's time to start again and get some new people interested.

Why would they? Excreta occurs...

I have no problem with this, especially if it gets more people to contribute, thus covering Derek's costs.
On another note, have we lost some of the off topic threads, eg recipes, baby pics , pet peeves, & others, or am I just dumb & can't find them?

There's an option down the bottom left to select what age threads are shown -- by default it is just the last month, and all the threads you've named are still there but haven't been updated in the last month, therefore you won't see them until you extend the period you're viewing.

it's as much about actual interesting content as it is sentimental attachment.

i guess that i like the idea of being able to go back and check, read about or reference stuff we've already been over.
