View Full Version : Snell to SA, LJ to ??

Recently, Belinda Snell signed a contract to play for the Silver Stars. I was pretty happy to hear this as I believe her talents were wasted with the Mercury. Does anyone think she will make a good contribution to the SA lineup? I think she'll come off the bench and be a good contributor every game.
As much as I love LJ and think she's done so much for the sport she deserves to choose whatever she wants, I do think it is putting Seattle in a very difficult position. Although, I would be surprised to see her move to Phoenix, I think she's put Seattle in a tough situation. The Storm can't sign replacements for her whether or whether not she play for them, so basically they've bought a few new players that they will have to go with if she chooses not to play with them...

As a Phoenix fan, I was disappointed to see the Mercury pull their offer to Snell. I think Belinda has a lot more to offer than Mazzante, who has some crazy four year guaranteed contract. I'd hope that in moving to SA there will be more opportunities for Belinda.
There seems to be many fans hanging out out for a decision from Lauren. She has been open in saying she won't make a decision till after the Russian season, so we all just have to wait.
The delayed decision from LJ creates just as difficult a situation for Phoenix as it does Seattle. IMO, and I'm sure others would agree, Phoenix will be left with the bigger hole in their line up if LJ re-signs with Seattle, who have already secured the services of Janell Burse and Suzy Batkovic.

The decision has been made, LJ re-signs with Seattle (http://www.wnba.com/storm/news/jackson090504.html).

Seattle fans must be happy with this, They will expect a full season out of Jackson this year which will have them right in the hunt again this year. I did kinda want to see her playing with Penny Taylor though.

I (and a lot of Monarchs fans) would like to know whether Camino plans to show up in Sacramento this season.
Anyone have the word on this?

I too wondered what Camino's plans were and whether she'd turn up in Sacramento. According to the SBL website, she's signed with the Perth Redbacks WSBL side (http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?c=1-5011-0-0-0&sID=78732&articleID=8962450&news_task=DETAIL) (last paragraph of the linked story).

If Camino wants to go further with her basketball, she really should test the waters in the WNBA rather than just dagging around in the WA comp. It's been a few years since she entered the WNBA draft and put off her first season commitments to focus on the Gems. Does she even want to go over there anymore? By the looks of it, I'd say no.

Dene, Camino didn't nominate for the draft. From memory, the story goes that Houston found a loop hole in the rules and drafted her while she was still at the AIS (which I was told was a surprise to both Renae and the AIS coching staff).

Yep, I can certainly understand the lack of appeal about the whole Houston scenario, but now that her rights have been traded to Sacramento you would think she'd be silly not to give it a go.
A season under Boucek at the Monarchs would be great for her game, even if she was stuck at the end of the bench. Hey, who wouldn't want a paid summer holiday in California?

Lets just hope she hangs around and signs with a WNBL team next season. Or is she still under contract in Europe?

Camino has great talent, but still has loads to improve on. Resigning with a WNBL team isn't going to improve her skills too much. I'd say Europe will be the go and who knows, maybe a WNBA stint in 2010...

Camino's name is on the Monarchs roster, so maybe she will be turning up for training camp...
In other news, Kristi Harrower got a training camp roster with the LA sparks. I personally think this a a brilliant signing as the Sparks are a little low on PG talent and a pass first/set play type player Harrower is, I think she is just the kind of point guard LA need to assist players like Leslie, Parker, Milton-Jones, Thompson, Lennox etc.
Bit interesting though as she was one to say the WNBA was a selfish league and that Aussie players should develop their skills in Europe, rather than the U.S.

Her name has been on their roster ever since they acquired her rights, so I wouldn't read anything into that.

Yes, and more interestingly she had a good crack at their #1 player (Lisa Leslie) for flaunting her old gold medals wherever she went. Some serious tension to overcome in that locker room!
If they do though, I agree that it could be an excellent signing for LA. If they can stay healthy they're the #1 team in the west.

Looks like Harrower is no longer on the Sparks' roster. She didn't play in the pre-season game and her name is not listed on the LA 2009 roster.

Huh? She hasn't even arrived there yet. She isn't expected in camp until the end of the week.
