View Full Version : Great Game
A great game to watch today,
we went down by 61..
now you prob think that is bad..
well we actually played well....
the final score being 160-99
and it wasnt like we didnt play defence.....
a amazing show by Toowoomba as they dished out 43 assists!!!!
everything they scored was off catch and shoot, penetrate and dish or a offensive rebound!!!!
The Game was refereed by Scott Butler!
So it was officiated as good as it gets!!!! (man, how good is he!!!)
Greenie, your boy had a good weekend!
v Toomba he had 31 points, 8 rebounds, 8 steals, 7 assists, 1 block
v Ippy he had 23 points, 11 rebounds, 10 steals, 3 assists and one huge block*
*not recored by stats!
i tihnk someone today said.. what do you have to do to get a block in this league.. put the ball thru the backboard.. it was a very big block, the backbaord moved and the ball came off it hard, not hitting the ground until after the 3 pt line

Man sounds like Gilly had a blinder of a weekend.
As for the block issue, WTF!!!
I know when I pull off massive blocks like that I make sure to go straight over to the scorers table after the game and make sure it was recorded. If it wasn't, I abuse the stats person until it is!! :P
As for your teams loss, tsk tsk tsk!
hehehe.. it was a pretty enjoyable game..
one of our rooies blocked a half way shot.. we told him to go upto the stats people and make sure they got it
he didnt, and he didnt get given the block...
You guys ever done stats? Its pretty damn hard, especially getting things like blocks and assists, cos at the same time you have to record shots and who took them, rebounds, then the ball goes away and you have to start again. I usually find they're pretty good on blocks though - I've racked up 2 this season that I didn't even know I got myself!
I get pissed about the assists. I don't throw that many, and they've missed a couple of nice ones I did get. My club has assists nazis - you practically have to bounce it off their chest and in the hoop without them catching it first, or they argue that the scorer 'made the play', not the passer :?
Yeah, i understand it is hard to do stats, and we dont live or die by them..
i tihnk the pen and paper way is much more efficent and you dont miss anything if you have a caller
in our league it is pretty hard to get a block... we do stats off the video two of our guys have 19 blocks in 7 games yet officially they dont even get 1 a game
generally though the stats do a good job, some palces you dont get assists, others they give almost every rebound as a team rebound etc .. lol.. but generally you can get a good idea of waht has happened
we jsut cant use assists and blcoks, as they are jsut wrong

Assists are the hard one. I do stats.
The ruling is: The person who recieves the pass and then scores. The intent for that person is only to score. No Shot Fakes, jab steps etc. Doesn't matter how good the pass is but if the reciever has to work hard to get the basket. No Assist.
I think thats it. It just becomes an instinct.
in our first game one of our payers got real hot...
Players pass to him on the wing(he is about 28ft out, being defended), your regular point to wing pass, only the player shoots it straight away and hit about 2,3 of them like that..
should that be a assist?
For some players you can say that any pass to them is an assist, because their only intent is to score...
Expertise, in your case that should be an assist. Basically, any catch and shoot situation should be an assist.
What about on a fast break. As in, guy gets rebound, passes to player at defensive 3pt line. That guy has no-one between him and the basket, goes the length of the court and scores, without doing anything except dribbling in a straight line. Should be an assist imo, even if the guy goes end to end, because the pass creates the play and the guy doesn't have to make do anything except score the points. Never gets given though.

The fast break one is still sometimes given depends on who taught the person calling the stats. Me personally I don't call it because although their only intent is to score, that person still has to work to get to the basket.
Catch and shoot is an assist also a turnaround jumpshot can be an assist if it is caught turn and shoot in one motion.
If you want to learn stats contact your local aba association and i'm sure they'll be wanting people to do stats.
