Has anyone out there used Tom's method or coaches that way. He seems to go away from a lot of things that we seem to teach our kids. ie. squaring up, elbow in and snap the wrist.
It is an interesting method but would like to know if it is being used in Australia and with what success.

I assume you've seen it. I've been interested in checking out this video for some time. I'm a sucker for checking out different shooting techniques, and have heard a bit about this one. Just haven't had the tendancy to fork out the cash to get it though.
I was sort of waiting for someone to divx it and put it on bit torrent. *hint* *hint*

I am waiting for the DVD to come but have done lots of reading on the site. There are 3 or 4 years worth of archived newsletters with plenty of information.
I'll let you know when I get it. I'll probably test it out on my 10 year old and see if it helps before I decide wether to change my coaching techniques.

Just read some of his newsletters.
I'm not sure what he's talking about in reference to the wrist. Is he saying that the wrist shouldn't really give the shot any power. just rotation? With my own shot, I use the wrist a fair amount to get the horizontal motion, with my arm almost going straight upwards. I'd have to look at his recommendation before I know that he means.
I totally agree with this stance and shoulders theory though. I came to that conclusion independantly myself when I noticed that my wrist wasn't nearly flexible enough to keep the shoulders/feet square and elbow in while still being able to keep my hand/fingers straight and upright. If you don't agree with him on this, try this:
* Face a wall from about a foot away, feet and shoulders square
* Place your shooting hand on the wall at about eye level
* Your hands mid digital directly in front of your shooting eye
* Fingers pointing directly upward
* Elbow in, so it's in line with your shooting foot, knee, eye and hand
* Now push on the wall and feel the pressure in your wrist, it will probably naturally be twisted towards centre.
I can't even flatten my hand on the wall doing this.
Now, move your non shooting foot and shoulder just a few degrees back, and you can apply even pressure against the wall with your hand.
All I worry about now is that my shooting foot, hand and eye all line up, and my elbow is as low as it's comfortable.
I've always been a big fan of using lots of leg force in shooting, especially 3 point distance. I'd like to see more on Norland's stuff regarding how he teaches a good leg to arm/wrist power ratio.

Like I said I am just waiting on the DVD but I have been just playing around with his theories with myself and my boys and I seem to be getting some good results. My son is having a free throw shooting drought at rep level and I think it is more mental than techniqe however we have been putting up 500 shots a day this week so hopfully will be strokin' it come Sunday.

Have you got yourself a copy of the Swish DVD yet? What are your thoughts on it?

Yep. I have got it. There is no real big secret ingredient. Most of the info is obtainable on Tom's website. I have been using his tecniques with my son to great effect. His release motion looks very sweet and percentages are on the rise especially from the stripe.
Where can you get a copy from?
