View Full Version : Pat Mills to Italy?

St. Mary’s junior Patrick Mills may be taking an interesting route to elevating his NBA draft stock in anticipation of the June 15th underclassmen withdrawal deadline. In all likelihood, it appears that Mills will be taking part in the Reebok Eurocamp in Treviso from June 6th-8th, where he’ll get a chance to test himself in a five on five setting against some other intriguing point guard prospects, such as Brandon Jennings and Rodrigue Beaubois. With the elimination of the competitive aspects of the NBA pre-draft camp in favor of drills and interviews, it appears that there is “no better place for Patty to improve his draft stock” according to one source familiar with his thinking.
This would be a major boost for the Eurocamp, as it would give GMs yet another reason (a potential first round pick) to make the weekend trek over to Italy. As it is, the camp is generating some major buzz, and the organizers are expecting a huge influx of high-level decision makers to evaluate the talent on hand.
One player that appears to be leaning towards not playing, though, is Omri Casspi. Sources close to the situation tell us that Casspi is probably leaning towards attending the NBA combine on May 27th and then working out for teams against as many top-rated NCAA small forward prospects as he can. http://www.draftexpress.com/blog/Jonathan-Givony/#NBA-Draft-Roundup-May-15th-3214
Great chance to face off against other top prospects in 5 on 5 workouts. At the moment Pat is listed as a borderline 1st/2nd round pick and a good showing in Italy can boost him to a guaranteed contract.

Saw this myself yesterday. If he goes to take part in Eurocamp it could be a good move - provided he upstages Jennings (which I would think he would do).
I still reckon he will stay in the draft and go first round.
with the amount of quality point guards in the draft, i wouldnt be surprised if he pulls out and waits for next year, after (hopefully) a tourney showing

I'm not overly familiar with next years class, but I read there is a lack of point men next year, so this couldn't hurt if he isn't approaching top 20.
thats what ive been reading about numerous point guards that arnt locks for top 20, patty's name has been thrown into that group every now and then

Why not choose Spanish ACB? Italian bball is getting suck these days, I'd rather play NBL than the Italian league.

A bit off topic, but does anyone know if you'd be able to get a Patrick Mills jersey off the NBA Store website? When I know which team he will play for, I want to order a jersey of his, but is it possible to customize a jersey so it says 'Mills" and his jersey number? Also, is shipping to Australia available?

Yes, and yes.
It's no fuss to get a Nathan Jawai jersey from the NBA.com store, so I'd imagine it'd be no problem to get Mills'. You can get a jersey from pretty much any NBA player; the individual team customisable jerseys have a drop-down menu from which you can choose any player currently on the roster, or come up with something yourself ('cept for past players, and cussin').
And yeah, shipping to Australia, sure.

Don't be surprised if they bring out Mills jerseys like they did Bogut jerseys in the likes of Footlocker and Rebel.

Premonition time.
I predict that Mills will be taken 30 by Cleveland.

Where does everyone hope Patty goes (realisticly)? What team will be best for his development?

I've heard quite a few times as high as Chicago or Nawlins, as a back up to Rose/Paul so they don't have to play 44 mpg (assuming Chicago send Heinrich somewhere for a big)

25. Oklahoma City - Patrick Mills, G, St. Mary's: The Australian international could be a major asset for the Thunder once they're playoff-worthy. Among the pieces missing in OKC is a change-of-pace guard off the bench to combat offensive lulls.

26. Chicago: Patrick Mills Point Guard. St. Mary's
The Bulls are eager to find a point guard that can allow Rose to sometimes play off the ball and Mills would be a perfect fit for that role. He is explosive off the dribble and should be one of the game's better spot-up shooter. When Mills and Rose are on the floor together, opposing team's will need highly athletic defenders at both guard positions.

29. Lakers Patrick Mills PG 6-0 180 St. Mary's
Jordan Farmar isn't the point guard of the future in L.A., giving Mills a legitimate shot at being taken by the soon-to-be-crowned World Champions.

25. Thunder- Patty Mills (St. Mary’s Sophomore)
The Thunder might not be sold on Westbrook as a point guard yet since he turns the ball over quite a bit. Move over RW0 and insert Mills. Sounds good to me.

Second Round
Assuming that the two unspecified second round picks at about 33, his average projection is 29.6. He'd have to be very happy with any pick in the first round. It seems likely that he'll be on the board when the Lakers and Cavs pick, which will be exciting.

A very nice summation, thanks Wallitron...
I'm still a fan of him going back to college and working on the few things he needed to, possibly reaching The Tourney and having another stand-out season, then really shining in next seasons draft with less competition at his position, after possibly another good International run... but since THAT isn't going to happen now, you'd think that the few criticisms that have been thrown at him (poor shooting %, lack of assists, shoot first PG) can be rationalised away due to the responsibility he had at St Mary's and any scout with half a brain would know that in a professional environment he will flourish... especially considering the wraps he's gotten from the certain members of the Redeem Team... Hopefully Chris Paul will remind the front office come draft day, as I'm not confident that Patty will get taken top 20, but would Nawlins want to burn their only draft pick on Mills? It's not like they can take the risk of possibly picking him up in the 2nd round... Team practices would be awesome to have Mills and Paul up against each other... That could only help Patty beyond imagining...
My pick is that he gets picked up no later than early in the 2nd round (everyone still remembers the 'Lymps and this gives him some good cred, despite any NCAA shortcomings) and many GMs kick themselves in a season or two... He's a hard worker and will do whatever he needs to to improve his team...

I think he has a promise to go in the first round which is why he stayed in the draft.
Thats why I was thinking Clevelend, I heard Lebron had good things to say about him, but I like the New Orleans idea as well, I could see them taking Mills has a cheap backup/3rd string pg.
Cheap seems to be an important thing in NO at the moment

OMG... Baynes set a screen... what was he THINKING? lol...
re: Nevill: For such an athletic big man, I'm still surprised that there isn't more buzz surrounding him... I guess his defence has let him down a bit but still... you'd think how he developed at College is only an indication of how willing he is to improve and develop his game and it's easier to teach a guy to improve his defence than it is to get them more agile and athletic... *shrugs*
Is it just me, or does Luke sound a bit more south african than australian? lol
