What genius decided to schedule the 16 Womens and the 18 Womens final on at the same time?

Have you seen the draw for Round 3? At both venues the 2 age group finals are on at the same time in both the men's and women's comps

Illawarra has 6 teams in the Final 4 which considering that their domestic comps are very small. It is obvious that the Hawks success is based on a solid programme in 12s and 14s. Gosford also has 6 with Hills fronting with 5.
This year shows a further changing of the guard with yesterday's power houses Bankstown, Sutherland and Sydney either not there or with 1 or 2 finalists.
There is always arguments re the Country occassional weekends vs the Sydney Conference full on weekly programme. Well the proof could be in the pudding below

So you think 17 out of 32 Country compared to 15 out of 32 Metro gives a definative answer? Seems pretty damn close to 50/50 to me ;)

I think Gosford women look too sharp in the 18's. Sutherland will prove stiff competition with a full complement, Hills and Norths likely making up the numbers.

Illawarra and Gosford in the 18 mens looked good as well but North's with their big man back??? may be a smokey.

Comets to run away with 16 girls.

Will North's 16's coach adjust V Gosford. That group losing would be pretty outrageous.

COACH PETE set a great screen when he bumped "Where are the ex big guns Bankstown, Sutherland, City" on to the ratio of country to city teams in the final 4. Nice move Pete. Now, navel gaze and let us know what is their problem. Is it lack of numbers, a changing roster of coaching staff or a lack of a programme.

I agree that Comets look the goods in the 16 girls. The obvious contender Illawarra is not consistant under pressure and often as not lapses into internal abuse. 3 of the Hawks were in the very poor NSW Country Team that finishes 9th.

My comments were more in answer to the statement "There is always arguments re the Country occassional weekends vs the Sydney Conference full on weekly programme. Well the proof could be in the pudding below"
I don't believe there is a foolproof argument either way in the results from Rd 2

As to the ex "powerhouses" and their problems I can't answer for Bankstown and City. For my own association we were a little unlucky not to have at least 3 teams through to Rd 3. The 18 boys lost a very dominant player to the Aussie U17 training camp. He's the man in that team and his absence was a significant blow. The 16 boys were also down their best player due to commitments to AFL and a deal he's on with Fremantle where he had to attend an event and couldn't get out of it, then lost their other State player to injury in the 1st game. They did a great job and simply ran out of petrol in the crossover game. The 18 girls were fortunate that the 3 kids they brought up from 16's did a sensational job and managed to get them through.
All that being said and all excuses aside this was by far the worst season we've had in many years. No senior teams in finals, only 1 SJC winner and 1 team to round 3. Reasons are many and various but if you think we're happy to "navel gaze" and not try and do something about it you're very wrong.

I think that the same could be said for Bankstown as well - lack of results this year means that there are some people very focused on improving the system and progress for the future...

When I played many years ago it was always Bankstown and Sutherland who dominated finals. I think its great to see other associations rise to the challenge and its encouraging to see them get the results. Its a credit to their junior programmes and its exciting to see what the future holds. It keeps those supposed 'power house' associations on notice.

I'm happy with the way our boys played yesterday in the first game, Panthers (U16's 1). We came away with a great win against Newcastle. The second game wasn't so good against Norths though, they just seem to be flogging everyone, and for some reason they tend to really score against us, it's hard to believe they lost to Gosford 2 weeks ago. I think they punish us for not giving them a perfect record in the regular seaosn lol (Being there only loss in the SJC). Amazing what can motivate these boys huh. Good on them though, they play so good.

We need to win this morning to go through to the G.F., I'm sure it will be tough, but I'm giving ourselves a chance in my mind. I think we can do it if our boys lift.

The only issue for us is how then do we beat Norths, they're so strong and playing extremely well, our boys need to have a perfect game to get them. If I was Norths I'd be extremely proud of those boys.

The competition has been excellent.
