a few days from the start of the Championships.
My top 5 are as follows in no particular order (except for Knox)
Knox
Illawarra
Bulleen
Diamond Valley
Canberra (If Duffelmeyer is fit and healthy)
Does anyone think there are teams that can challenge these 5?

I'd be interested to know how young Hampton goes from Canberra if anyone catches a game...

and this years Classic
Bulleen
Knox
Melbourne
Diamond Valley
Broadmeadows
Geelong
Keilor
Swine flu was just a good excuse not to get beaten!
Not sure what the justification is for teams like Canberra or Illawara to be consider pre-tournament for top 5 positions.

I am judging on what I have seen which is all the VIC teams except Dandenong, all the NSW teams, Canberra, Logan, Sturt, West Adelaide.
Illawarra have 2 kids 6'2/3ish and built like men and a really good guard with the other kids all doing well at playing their roles.
Canberra are a quick and athletic team who play well in transition. Dufflemeyer is the key for them and has been suffering with bad knees.

While all the talk has been of who will be the top 4-5 teams at the championships it must be a totally depressing tournament for the Boys from NT South having lost two games by 100+ points after 3 rounds.
Lets hope all the opposing coaches pull their teams right back and play their benchs for the rest of the championships against this young inexperienced team which has travelled all this way down south and must now be feeling totally humiliated.

Business as usual for Alice Springs to be honest - very little changes from year to year. Makes you wonder what value there is in two NT teams coming when a state with an arguably larger basketball community (ACT) only gets one team.

'sif ACT would ever be split up...kinda like Illawarra splitting up...Newcastle did it, nobody wants to join in though

They have 2 teams because it would be impossible for them to train if they only had one team from NT. BA being inclusive and allow kids from both Alice Springs & Darwin the opportunity to compete. They are a fantastic bunch of kids and have enjoyed every minute of their time at the games.
Only big suprise is Diamond Valley performing so poorly Semi's should be Geelong v Bulleen and Keilor v Knox. Dandenong nearly tip out Keilor in the last match, but it is hard to see past Bulleen & Knox in the GF. Can't see Illawarra or Canberra beating Dandenong, but there could be a chance against Diamond Valley.
Geelong has been really focused and haven't really smashed teams but have just beaten all comers so far. Will be a real test against Bulleen. Keilor has only just got over teams also and they had the weakest pool by far.
Revised final top 6
Bulleen
Knox
Geelong
Keilor
Dandenong
Diamond Valley

Please tell me there's not really a thread on here about a tournament for 12 and 13-year-olds which specifically discusses individual players.
The tournament's such a bad idea anyway but to then speak specifically about kids is just too much.

SD.No thanks from ACT. Obviously its different from year to year, but more often than not depth will be an issue if were to try and separate our squads.

Not suggesting that ACT gets two teams, however NT should probably go back to being one if anything.

Gotcha. Misunderstood the larger basketball community comment as suggestion of a split.

Girls event starts today. Predictions??
Diamond Valley and Dandenong seem to be the logical choices. I have received word through that Hills upset Bulleen in game 1. That makes pool B very interesting.

Hell, you could go with a split, however you'd probably end up with a similar issue to the one which NT North / NT South end up with.

Dufflemeyer is the key for them and has been suffering with bad knees.
Definitely a worry for a 13 year old to have bung knees when the same thing forced his father out of the game.

I reckon there are a few screws loose in the SportingPulse website as the games don't seem to make sense. There are a few games "scheduled" where the same team is drawn to play two different opponents at the same time. Hence the games in italics are the ones where I've made the assumption that they play each other...
Friday's games
Places 1-4 group
Eastern v. Dandenong
Hills v. Diamond Valley
Places 5-8 group
Traralgon v. Ballarat
Forestville v. Bulleen
Places 9-12 group
Ipswich v. Illawarra
Lakeside v. Cockburn
Places 13-16 group
Logan v. Townsville
Wanneroo v. Sutherland
Places 17-20 group
Perry Lakes v. Canberra
NT North v. Newcastle
Places 21-24 group
Southern Tas v. Northern Tas
NT South v. Nth Adelaide
Good to see one NSW team in the top 4, however 5 Victorians in the top 8 is again a strong result for the Big V...it'll be interesting to see how all of this pans out.

He's been playing at least 3 games a week in domestic comp for the last 5 years, let alone rep games and training.
