But yes, they would not have filmed the games in widescreen back then and definitely not HD.

Assuming you mean recorders, I highly recommend the Beyonwiz DP-P2 (or the less expensive DP-P1, if you don't need to record from external sources). Great bit of gear.

That is a lot of money though. If you're poor, like me, and have any PC knowledge and a reasonable PC you can do this for $100 to $200 depending on whether you want a single tuner or a dual tuner card. Feel free to PM me if you want any pointers on doing it this way.

I ask because in my Ultimate Jordan DVD boxset, that have games going back to 1986, and they all play at widescreen.
I must admit I sometimes get a bit confused about what converts to what and when.
Maybe these box sets have been remastered and converted to widescreen format.

Yeah, and HD tuner card for the PC is definitely a good way to get into it inexpensively. That was my first HDTV too. (Many years ago ... when a good one cost $300+) Makes it simple if you're into keeping you recordings on DVD as well.
But he said "best on the market" and IMO the Beyonwiz is.

hey thanks for the info Dunkin dan

I've got a HDTV. Was hoping there's a device I could connect to that to record the games in HD. And store on a HDD. External prefered. And can then be played back on the tv in HD.

Does ur suggested recorder do that?

I'm at work ATM so I'll have to google it when I get home.

My Ultimate Jordan DVD definitely isn't widescreen. It can be watched in widescreen, but the picture is just stretched right out.

Does ur suggested recorder do that?
Yes, mostly. The BeyonWiz records TV (including HD) to its internal HDD (2 channels at once if needed, like the Foxtel iQ). The -P2 model can also record from an external source, like Foxtel, a VCR, etc.
From there you can play them back on your TV & through your home cinema - it has all the usual A/V outputs, and it upscales everything that isn't HD.

It is most effective if you network it (hard-wired CAT5 type) to your PC, because you can then transfer recordings between the unit and your PC, and the best part - play files directly off your PC, including photos, MP3s and your personal collection of non-copyright-infringing DivX movies. It also has USB and a memory card slot for playing these files from, so the networking isn't a necessity, just a time saver.
The USB port can be used to connect an external HDD, but you can't record directly to it. You can move your recordings to from/it though, and play your recordings from it.
(Note - its recordings are in a special format, which you can't just take elsewhere and play with something like Windows Media Player, but VLC Media Player will play them)
(RaMarQabLe, feel free to PM me if you need any more info)

At the risk of banging on about this - I am pretty sure mine isn't stretched out - so it must be cropping top and bottom.
Happy to now know that everything was shot in 4:3 though.
Now I can stop whinging about it.

One HD are showing a game in what they call their "NBA game of the week" on Sunday night at around 7:30pm, I assume it will be a replay of one of their four games from this week. Either way hopefully it's something they keep doing during the course of the season.

Parts of the game are edited out - and the repeat has less game time the first broadcast.

Not sure if this will interest anyone, but have you noticed that they can go to a time out with say 5 minutes left - and when they return from the timeout there might be 3 minutes left.
Also, I found that the repeat can have even more game minutes edited out than the first boradcast did.
Not that I am complaining when I get it for free though.
I only realised this after one of the games ran over time and I missed the end. So I also copied the repeat. Then found it was shorter than the original. So when I was splicing the 2 together for 1 complete long version I sort of uncovered these edits.
This was only 1 example, so I am assuming it is the norm.

Most NBA games go for 2hrs 30min - 2hrs 45min live so when showing replays they like to fit them into a nice 2hr block. It's no surprise One HD would do this and ESPN does it as well for their replays.

It's a good idea though. If you have the time and the capability, record both the live version and the replay, then find out when the edits are in the replay, go back to the recording of the live version and find the missing section, splice them together and hey presto, a full version of the game.

For some reason we got the Fox Wisconsin broadcast.
Probably the only channel covering that game and I guess 10 figured they'd get more viewers showing a Bogut game than whatever was "nationally" (ie. over there) televised yesterday.
