For those who may not have read the Big V Magazine and seen the BA announcement here it is -
"The Basketball Australia board met on October 5, 2009, and the following was agreed as per the recommendation of the High Performance Review:
• The Board resolved to delegate the development of a concept for an underpinning competition for the professional leagues to the Competition Commission.
• The Board further resolved that the Competitions Commission commence discussion with interested parties to develop this competition.
• A moratorium on external change in the structure of the State Leagues, Waratah, Central, QBL, Big V and SEABL competitions from the 2009 models, for 2010 has been advised by the board.
• Basketball Australia is looking to create a ‘league’ concept which achieves a league sanctioned and administered by Basketball Australia under the Competitions Commission, a league with a strong development focus, with strong links to grass roots associations as well as NBL links for emerging talent, a financially viable league which is inclusive, providing all Australian associations with the aspirational opportunity to participate, a national competition with potential representation from all states, direct pathway linkages to State Associations and their State Leagues, vital part of the development ‘pathway’ directly positioned above the state leagues and below the NBL, an obvious and direct pathway for players, coaches and officials, and the aim would be to commence this league in 2011.
Basketball Australia has met with the SEABL Chairman and SEABL has agreed to keep any expansion plans in abeyance while this planning process takes place."
As an interested party Big V looks forward to being involved in the consultation process.
