Has anyone heard if these? Is there any truth behind what they're saying? Sounds a little dodgy to me!

They are reasonably effective, but you'd get the same results from doing plyometrics.
Save the money, get a good book on plyos and a nice pair of Gaze kicks.
EDIT: Oh and squat like a mother, too, that'll definitely help.
I have had a couple of friends use them and got injuries! I like airalert myself! http://www.airalert.com/

I'm with cezar, I don't understand what they have that would benefit more than just doing plyometrics. They do sound pretty dangerous as well. it doesn't say how long it takes to kick in, i mean it might take 3 months for them to increase the vertical jump....
They do sound a bit more fun than plyo's i'll give them that.

A mate of mine used them for like six months and went from barely being able to touch the net to grabbing the ring easily with two hands. Food for thought.

Believable, but all they do is isolate the calves and perform plyometric exercises. That can be done without a special device.

Am I incorrect in saying that it is generally easier to make progress with jumpsoles than without?
By easier I mean less physical strain and effort. Plyometric exercises tend to be quite painful.

No pain, no gain mate.
Much the same, if anything the jumpsoles would hurt a little bit more, because the calf is more isolated.
One thing with plyos/jumpsoles, is not to overtrain. Common mistake is to do too many repetitions in hopes of getting hops overnight and getting some sort of injury.
I've seen some stupid jump programs on the net, that encourages 3 sets of 250 repetitions of calf raise jumps.  Your joints would not be happy.
Medium reps, stretching (key to athleticism), and some weight training would be your best bet.

I did Air Alert 2 about 4 years ago now, and went from barely being able to dunk, to doing consistent two handers of of both feet with very little run off.
12 weeks of absolute agony it was, but it was worth it.
The program itself ivolved 3 sets for each exercise, with the number of reps increasing each week to the point were by about week 6, i was on the verge of giving up. God knows how I made it through to week 12.

Have to agree with you on that Greenie, it's damn tuff when you get about halfway thru but its all worth it in the end!

Week 12 is absolutley ridiculous.
The jump in the number of reps between week 11 and 12 is massive. Just when you think your nearly there, it gets so much tougher.

Will any of these work for a 40 year old with a crook back, dodgy knee and long history of ankle sprains??

What is the best program to use? I'm wanting to increase my vertical.

Air Alert 2 or 3 would be my best bet.
Gave me great results, and alot of my mates found it great too.
PM me if you want a copy.
