... It took place today at Stables Basketball stadium here in Mill Park, a Northern Melbourne suburb.

We were watching the u10A boys Grand Final between Epping Storm & the Mill Park Blazers. These guys were playing immediately before my youngest son Patrick's B Grade GF.

Anyways....

Epping Storm was blowing a 12 point lead late in the game even though they seemed to be the better team. The Blazers were putting up an amazing fightback. The game went right down to the last few seconds as The Blazers blew a succession on free throws to go down 30-28. .....

... At least thats what the scoreboard said & thats what everyone clearly followed & knew to be correct.

However.......

As the Stadium management were setting up the post games presentations the refs doing the score sheet somehow had the game going Mill Park's way, meaning that the rules stated that whatever the score sheet read was technically the correct score, regardless of what the scoreboard said. So the Blazers were about to be crowned champions by default. What happened next made just about everyone's day as far as decency & not accepting a hollow victory goes.

The Blazer coach refused to accept the title as he knew his team did not earn it. In fact, while I myself am not privvy to the exact circumstance, some have said that he forfeited his "technical" victory.

Epping Storm were crowned champions, & the Blazer coach was overwhelmed by the amount of people from various clubs who congratulated him on his amazing display of sportsmanship.
