Skinner has given me a 1 point infraction for....

Reason: Off-Topic Thread

Was this not supposed to be in place for originally posted off topic threads rather than replies to threads already on the board?

Essentially I was given this for pointing out that information supplied by a user on the specific thread was not correct (nor is it often).
Therefore I would expect nearly every member on this board has been awarded atleast a point retrospectively if fines are now being handed out for this.

Some clarity would be appreciated

Clarity? One guy wants to feed his ego by handing out infractions at every opportunity. It's that simple.

I would like to see the sub-forum back where those infracted and banned get named and shamed..

bring back the naughty corner...

Correct, that's the intention of the rule.

In any case, points currently expire after a week, so you have a clean slate as of now.

That's hardly fair, we're barely handing out one a day combined, and almost all of those have been for bad language.

Perhaps you can inform SD of this so he can apply the rule correctly in future rather than acting as a power mad deputy.

Oh, you're keeping score now? Well that's going to lead to a whole bunch of SD-issued infractions. ;-)

But seriously, if there wasn't a track record of ridiculous moderating from one person, who seemingly gets his jollies from issuing infractions (even when there is no infraction system in place!) then it wouldn't be an issue.

I received an infraction point last week for calling Tom Mills a cockhead.

And he was a bad ref. God, Julian, how could you forget that?

I intercepted this one PM from some guy called S. Dog Hawk esq...

To have a little fun at the expense of the worst troublemakers, the moderators working the boards would sometimes make a modest friendly wager amongst themselves: first ref to give Cussy an infraction wouldn't have to tip the ball boy that night. In Ozhoops, Western Australians set up the referees' locker room and keep it stocked with food and beer for the postgame meal. We usually ran the Western Australians ragged with a variety of personal requests and then slipped him a $20 bill. Technically, the winner of the bet won twice — he didn't have to pay the WA residents and he got to call a T on Mr. Foul-Mouthed Big-Shot Du Jour Cussy.

After the bet's conditions were laid out, it was hilarious as the three of us immediately focused our full attention on Cussy, waiting for something, anything, to justify an infraction. If the guy so much as looked at one of us and mumbled, we rang him up. Later in the moderators' locker room, we would down a couple of brews, eat some chicken wings, and laugh like hell.

We had another variation of this gag simply referred to as the "first red ink of the day" bet. While still in the locker room before tip-off, we would make a wager on which of us would call the game's first edited post. That referee would either have to pay the Perth resident or pick up the dinner tab for the other two referees. Sometimes, the ante would be $50 a guy. Like the infraction bet, it was hilarious — only this time we were testing each other's nerves to see who had the guts to hold out the longest before waving the red pen. There were occasions when we would hold back for two or three minutes — an eternity in the boards — before unleashing the red sharpie of doom. It didn't matter if cursing was flying all over the place; no foul language was called because no one wanted to lose the bet.

We played this little game during the regular season and summer league. After a day, all three refs would gather around the VCR and watch a replay of the day. Early in the contest, the announcers would say, "Holy cow! They're really letting them go tonight!" If they only knew...

Really make ya think...
