The SBL have just launched a transaction tracker. Some signings of note in the men's league so far include:

Paul Rogers and Sam Harris to East Perth Eagles.
Daniel Johnson to Willetton Tigers.
Jesse Wagstaff to Perth Redbacks.

How would the WA SBL rate against the SEABL/Big V/Waratah in terms of basketball level?

Id rate SBL and BigV (minus Melb Tigers ABA team) as about the same standard.

SEABL would be a much better standard though than SBL.

There's an SBL Pre-Season Blitz website that has the fixtures.

How would the WA SBL rate against the SEABL/Big V/Waratah in terms of basketball level?
- Would probably be on par with the QABL and BigV.

- Half a rung below the SEABL, but the better SBL teams would be competitive in the SEABL.

- Would be better than the Waratah and CABL.

This year's WA SBL is going to be tough. Some very good imports plus plenty of NBL and ex-NBL players, plus a number of kids coming back from college. One club has recruited three 7-footers (2 x ex-NBL and one ex-college).

The Buccs have signed former NBL centre Ben Pepper.

Buccs add former NBL start to ranks (http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=1-5011-0-0-0&sID=78732&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=11642872&sectionID=78732)

Townsville Croc Peter Crawford also made his return to the SBL/Perry Lakes Hawks last week.

Watched Hawks V Eagles tonight with about 5-6 NBL players involved. Here's my analysis.

Eagles: Steben Weigh - Had a decent night offensively, would have racked up double figures in points, had a couple of classy moves and pull up threes but got stripped a few times conversely. Stood out but didn't look a class above necessarily. Saw him get blocked on a jumper which is a first.

: Damian Martin - Controlled the offense for the Eagles and had the ball in his hands most of the time, had a couple of NBL calibre moves but didn't dominate either. Worried big time about his three ball next season because his shooting form sux to be frank (please note my huge man crush on DM). His defense was sexy as usual.

: Sam Harris - Never a massive threat but got his share of rebounds and a couple easy buckets. Never looked particularly dangerous like the Hawks import centre did.

: Tom Jervis - Heard the Cats were interested in this man and it was evident why. Looked a class above and finished with 22 and 20, pity the Cats can't get this man for whatever reason, loved his game tonight.

Hawks: PC - Hit a lot of open threes and his passing was sensational as always (best in the NBL hands down). Feel he still has a lot to offer at the highest level. Handles were better than usual also. He and Weigh spoke for hours at the post game function (with a couple of large hotties hanging on) which shows they still have a good friendship going.

: Ummm Graham Anstey? Yeah nah.

: Tom Garlepp's brother played well too.

: Special mention to Ben Purser who I rate as an absolute jet.

I think he is a few months too old to qualify as a YAP. Hence Trueman.

I assume you meant SBL? If not, um what? He is a good passer for a two guard though.

Why? Because of their mutual liking for "large hotties"?

Is PC really a great passer? I guess often it's his handles and questionable decision making that is more behind it than a lack of passing skill, but he used to throw away the ball on the pass a fair bit?

Weigh hs jsut come back from some time off over east... not in game shape as you probably could tell, his first game back to a new team.

Damian Martin - Controlled the offense for the Eagles and had the ball in his hands most of the time, had a couple of NBL calibre moves but didn't dominate either. Worried big time about his three ball next season because his shooting form sux to be frank (please note my huge man crush on DM). His defense was sexy as usual.

He wasn't looking at shooting his 3 ball, as no one else on the team was really capable of running the offence. Anytime he did shoot a 3 it was out of a broken play or rushed.

Sam Harris - Never a massive threat but got his share of rebounds and a couple easy buckets. Never looked particularly dangerous like the Hawks import centre did.

What do they teach big kids in u/12s... if u get a rebound don't bring the balls down to your knees.

Tom Jervis - Heard the Cats were interested in this man and it was evident why. Looked a class above and finished with 22 and 20, pity the Cats can't get this man for whatever reason, loved his game tonight.

Definately the teams MVP this season, hope he gets a run with the cats.

PC has some of the worst handles going around and complains way too much.

Those were my thoughts on the game ;)

highlight of the game was Damo's chase down block

I was at the game too, thought it was a massive win for Hawks over Eagles. I thought Ben Purser did a super job on Weigh and showed he could definately play at the NBL level, considering he is only 20 years old

A few people have mentioned in the Cats thread (NBL forum) that they are going along to the SBL grand final - so who is everyone tipping?

WSBL: Willetton or Perry Lakes?

MSBL: Willetton or Lakeside?

WSBL: Willetton .... been best team all season

MSBL: Lakeside..... i follow Willetton but think Lakeside might just pip them. Both been the two best sides easily this year. If Lakeside win, would be happy for them as they have a great coach in Andy Stewart and even team across the board.

Congrats to the Willetton Tigers for taking out both SBL championships over the weekend.

The womens game was a very one sided affair with the Tigers cruising for most of the match against Perry Lakes.

The mens game last night was very entertaining, with the Tigers coming from behind to win a tough match against Lakeside. It was great to see such a big and vocal crowd at the State Basketball Centre for the mens match last night.

Must be time for a national ABA championship again I think. Lets hope the SBL doesnt wimp out though like they have in the past!
