At the present time our forum structure includes a few little-used forums. It doesn’t cost me anything to have different forums, but it does seem a bit silly to have forums that basically sit unused. So do we need to combine a few?
Here’s a possible structure I came up with, which I will throw out for discussion:
NBL/Boomers: the busiest forum on the site, the NBL should still have its own area. There’s a bit of crossover between NBL and Boomers topics, so maybe topics for Boomers squads/games can go in here as well.
Women/Opals: for the WNBL, WNBA and Opals. We’ve traditionally considered the WNBA as on topic in the WNBL forum anyway, given the number of Australians who play there.
Other Australian: for state leagues, the ACC if that ever starts again, the National Wheelchair Basketball League and other competitions.
(Maybe Coaches’ Corner could be rolled in here. Do we want a separate forum for amateur coaches/players still?)
World: for the NBA, college and Europe. We’re starting to get more European basketball on TV here thanks to Eurosport, so a World forum is still worthwhile.
I still plan to have a dedicated forum for the World Championships and Olympics as they roll around; those posts will get rolled back into the World forum when those tournaments are over.
FNBL: I’ll keep this as a separate forum while we still have a fantasy league here- I considered a Virtual Basketball forum for things like fantasy leagues, CourtRivals, and for discussion of basketball games like NBA Live and NBA2K.
This would mean we would lose Coaches’ Corner. Assuming we want to lose it, of course. Like I mentioned above, I don’t have to pay by the forum (although I do pay for traffic).
I’ve had one other request- that we reinstate Battlegrounds. This was a forum that was kind of silly, but people had fun with it- we’d run trivia contests, word games etc. I never hung around there much myself, but it doesn’t cost me anything.
Finally, remember that there is going to be some crossover between topics- a thread about Brad Newley, while technically relevant in the “World” forum, would also be of interest to people in the “NBL” forum. So regardless of how I draw the lines, there will always be a few things that don’t quite fit the rules.
