View Full Version : KINGS FANS: A message from the Sydney Kings

Hi everybody,

This is Dave from the Sydney Kings. If you were registered as an Early Bird you would have already heard from me. First off I want to apologise for the email glitch that happened last night. It was rather embarrassing, undoubtedly, and I deeply regret it. I can say that all of us including myself have been working day and night in order to get this thing set up properly, and going forward I have full confidence that we will get it right for our fans.

I wanted to connect with you guys here to get some solid feedback on what you would like to see happening with the team. Personally, as a fan foremost and an employee second, I am thrilled that the new Kings have been built from the top down the right way. This starts from former coach and Kings legend Bob Turner as General Manager, Ian 'Moose' Robilliard as Head Coach and former champion Brian Goorjian in a consultancy role. We are also very excited to have former Perth coach Conner Henry on as an Assistant Coach.

If there is anything that you feel can be improved, based on what we've established so far, please let me know and I will personally endeavour to make it happen.

Many of the issues relating to ticket sales on our website have now been resolved. Check out our site and see for yourselves! (http://www.nbl.com.au/index.php?id=992) Remember if you were an early bird you will need to log in (PM me for help if you need any).

Finally, I just want to talk some basketball and this board is definitely the best place to do it in Oz.

I look forward to hearing what you have to say, positive or negative. Bring on the Kings!

Kind regards,
Dave

Who is "Dave" from the Sydney Kings?.

Yep I'm for real.

Bob and Moose are a little busy at the moment. I'm here to act as an intermediary.

Bob already post here, under a different username. I can't remeber which one.

But seriously, what difference does it make who conveys the message? Kings fans needed to be informed of a few issues. Whether it came from Moose, Goorj, or one of the hangers-on like BJ Carter, is irrelevant.

It is Dave Robuck, the club's ticket and sponsor servicing manager.

Then he is the perfect person to relay a ticketing issue, and good on him for doing so.

Then he is the perfect person to relay a ticketing issue, and good on him for doing so.Indeed, it's refreshing that have someone like Dave that's ready to stand up, face the music & do his best to put things right.
Now hear me out Dave, give all the Kings fans that are on my "contact & friends list" Platinum seats, & we're done mate.
Sometimes giving a little, brings a lot. Look after the goodens & they crowd out the bads. ;)

Dave,

Any idea if Rodney O will be back? What about the band? How are season tickets going, have the Kings got much corporate support?

Don't expect Rodney O back. Not sure about the band yet. Ticket sales and support have been FANTASTIC. Honestly, it's amazing how many people share the same goal as us...returning the Kings to glory. We are focused on packing the Kingdome once again and I promise you that people are underrating the team. We will be competitive.

Dave,

I'm sure you've heard of a guy called Clint Dogg. He is a real DJ. He produces his own music and has even been locked up before, which makes him look like a real bad boy. What are the chances of getting him for the Kings?

I understand that with his hire, he also provides a guy in a Silent Bob costume, who can hold up promotional signs for you at half time. He has plenty of experience at it.

When someone registers here claiming to be from a club, it's pretty easy to verify whether they are for real. :)

With his repertoire it would have worked especially well had the team been called The Mack instead of The Kings, but you can't have everything I suppose.
And talking about cred, he records rap tracks like, makes music videos of them like, they get played on Rage like.

I hope that's a long term goal and the immediate one is to turn in solid performances both on and off the court. Being fiscally responsible is more important for you than glory right now.

The vast majority of Kings fans on here are woofing about glory and championships ad nauseum; and when it starts leaking into the club hierarchy it's a cause for concern. Hopefully, with you, it's just high spirits and you do have some bottom and gravitas. You seem to be a great communicator and have the best interests of those ticket-seeking fans at heart and it's great to see. Welcome.

Just don't woof ;-)

It's about providing a great experience for the fans, both die-hards and the general public. Whether you look at it from a basketball standpoint or a financial standpoint, the goals are the same. If you have a group of people who want to put a quality, winning product out there every night and are willing to go the extra mile to make it happen, the results will be positive on both sides of the coin.

I wouldn't be getting involved in this if I thought we were just trying to capitalise on our legacy, and that it would be easy to grab it. It's not. But again, the people involved are all highly motivated, basketball people, and we are all fighting to get this team and this sport where it needs to be.

Ok, that's crap... I'd wager that there's about 10 Kings fans that post on here even semi-regulary and I think you'd be REALLY hard-pressed to find a handful of comments in the last two months that would be considered woofing, let alone the "vast majority". The VAST MAJORITY of fans that are now left, in general, are just happy to have a team to support again and for the most part, have still been a bit warey/critical of how things have been moving along since the Kings returned... ad nauseum... psh... you just wanted to sound fancyspeak! :p

To save yourself some time, there is a reason this thread was created by Derek - http://www.ozhoopsboards.com/showthread.php?t=4821

I'll concede "vast majority of posters" as an error if you'll allow "vast majority of posts" to stand as an enduring testement to the general feeling one gets about Kings threads.

Absolutely. It is unfortunate that much like with Townsville Threads the posters with an agenda seem to have the loudest voice.

Concede all you like (because you're wrong ;) ) and make all the political statements that I don't understand (as who'd bother to follow politics in this country when there's American Idol to get behind!) you want, that doesn't change the fact that with the death of Lawsy and one or two random posters, you'd be hard-pressed to find many posts in the last two months (I chose that as that's roughly how long things have been going on for) that would classify as woofing... Sure, in the past there's been lots of tools on here doing that, and hence why teh derek created that post, but I reckon we've been pretty well behaved recently... at leats compared to our queenslander counterparts... I don't even bother with the Crocs thread anymore as it does my head in... Happy to take it "offline" (back into the appropriate Kings thread) though...

NOW... as to the purpose of Dave creating this thread, not for others to hijack with internal politics...

I haven't seen anything from the Kings re: Taj McCullogh... quick twitter search for him returned kochie_online's post:
Welcome Taj McCullough. Sydney kings import flew in to shoot Ch 10 promo. He & Julian Khazoo playing together again. First home game Oct 16
So hopefully we might see something on the tv soon, but it would be good for the Kings fans if we could get a sneak peek or have it posted online when it's televised?

Did Taj make any other appearances? Will there be any feedback on any questions posted?

The difference between Crocs threads and Kings threads is that Crocs threads are ruined by the same two knobs who look to criticise the Crocs at every opportunity. Kings threads, for more than two months, have had more than two people living in the past, wishing for their entire 07-08 team to be re-signed, ignoring the difficult situation the new owners are in, and getting annoyed when they haven't signed an All Star team that is going to win a title in their first year, even though they constantly remind us that they are just happy to have a team to support again.

In March. 4 months ago. AFTER the litany of shite posted by certain Kings fans.

You seem able to grasp the concept of time but do not let it influence you when ignoring it makes what you say technically true. Being right about the last two months is irrelevant.

Thanks for fixing that up so emphatically, Silencer!

Based on what I read, see and hear about McCullough, I think he may be the type of player who can thrive in this league. He is undersized for the PF slot (although he'll likely play there at times), but I have a feeling that he will be the type of hustle player (particularly under Robilliard) who makes the plays that count and inspires the whole team.

Plus, who couldn't like a guy that was described thus:

“Taj McCullogh runs funny, but it’s an inspiring kind of funny run.”
- Jake The Snake, Bullets Forever
(http://www.bulletsforever.com/2008/7/14/571440/open-thread-summer-league#7399549)

I'm certainly not looking for a title this season for the Kings -- I'll be happy to watch a team that demonstrably tries hard every night and pulls out enough exciting wins to keep the fans interested. The value in attending a sports match and following a team is not always all about the win.

Well when I got to meet him the first thing I noticed was that this guy is big! A lot of the highlights I've seen have been him out in the open floor where he looks kinda like a small forward in terms of athleticism. But seeing him next to Julian, there's not much difference in terms of height. I think having guys like Raj and Rod who are athletic but can also shoot the ball could make for some real exciting lineup options for Moose.
