This is a golden opportunity to promote the Boomers with the 'rebirth' of the sport in Australia, but sadly (yet again) it looks like BA is going to miss the boat.
We have a Boomers camp here on the Gold Coast starting next week and we haven't heard anything about here on the Coast. Is there an open training session that local fans can attend? So many simple PR things would do wonders to generate interest.
But it is the lack of sponsorship that really upsets me. This would be a great opportunity for BA to cash in on the 1 billion people that will be able to watch the event, and we really don't have one single meaningful sponsor. Golden Star isn't an actual sponsor, they just received the sponsorship in exchange for their organisation of the Boomers' participation in the Stankovic Cup tourney in China. And the fact that a company that doesn't even have a logo or a website and is our naming rights sponsor is pretty embarrassing!
With the massive coverage that will follow the team internationally before, during and after the tournament the exposure a major Aussie brand (eg. Qantas) could get would be massive and would give BA much needed cashflow to promote other things. This is an opportunity they can't afford to miss

BA have ownership of the Boomers.
Last I heard was that Vlahov had taken over the competition the Boomers get, the promotion and marketing etc of the Boomers.
I assume that he pays a fee for that and would get a cut of any profits??
So ask Vlahov. ;)

You are clearly living in a fantasy land GC. Massive coverage of a team without its number 1 drawcard, a sport that is on its knees currently in this country, the coverage will be minimal at best.

Thanks for reminding me.
I was quite impressed by the advertising of it in my association's stadiums. There are A1 sized Bogut World Championship posters everywhere, free sticker sheets that feature a host of NBA players in their country uniform (although, I laughed that vast majority of those players aren't actually playing) and thousands of pocket sized game schedules everywhere for the taking.

Those are all good, but why have we not heard about any of it up here? That sounds like exactly what we need but I had never seen any of those things before. But I think the number one thing is that the general public needs to be made aware of the tournament, and that lack of awareness is the number one concern.

Sounds like you should see your doctor about anti-depressants Rebecca

Also, on these posters are they advertising the fact that all Boomers games will be covered on FOX Sports?
If not, these posters mean nothing because no one will even know that there is television coverage of the event, meaning nobody will follow it anyway.

Speaking of tv coverage leading up to the World Champs... we don't have any of their Stankovic Cup games televised do we? Wondering out loud if there's an online/streaming option?

Is this an opportunity BA missed with ONE?

"Is there an open training session that local fans can attend?"
Yes, as publicised in a media release issued by BA (htttp://bit.ly/dvRE9c) the Boomers will open their training session to the public on Thursday 22 July from 5:30PM – 7:30PM at The Southport School.
"the 1 billion people that will be able to watch the event"
The fact that the Boomers will play in front of one billion people was publicised in another media release sent out last week, which is probably how you knew about it - http://bit.ly/aOLxeW

Howster,
Can you please give us the FOX Sports schedule for the WC?
So far as I know bogut, there isn't one. Those of us without One will have to make do without. I can't imagine why they'd share the rights anyway.

Yeah, FIBA TV will have all of the games online. It's a great service.
In addition, if you've got a Nokia phone, download the official FIBA "bball" app through the Ovi Store... it will have game updates and videos, plus I'll be providing up-to-date content to the app from Turkey -- so you know it'll be good ;)
I'll hopefully be writing a lot of stuff on the games at ASternWarning.com too.

The posters referred to by Clips were obvioulsy produced by FIBA and sent around the world. BA has probbaly simply sent them to each State top do with them what they will. If you association does not have them get them to contcat their Sate office.

Oops, forgot to return to this thread. As Observer said, these posters have been sent out by FIBA. The mini draws actually have quite a bit of info in them, including the seating arrangements of the 4 stadiums the games will be played in, and a range of ticketing options and prices with contact numbers for those wishing to purchase them.
I imagine we'll see some more advertising closer to the date.

I just got back from lunch and when I was in the car listening to SEN (Melbourne) Brad Newley was being interviewed. They were talking about the Gold Coast camp, the upcoming Stankovic Cup, Newley's move to LT for next season, his desire to play in the NBA, and the impact of Bogut and Maric not playing at the WC's (he satetd Maric could still yet join the team).
